Stutzman a "Friend of Farm Bureau"

LaGrange, IN- Yesterday, Congressman Marlin Stutzman (IN-03), a fourth-generation farmer from Howe and member of the House Agriculture Committee, accepted the Indiana Farm Bureau’s “Friend of Farm Bureau” award.

“It’s easy to talk about how broken Washington is these days but it takes some grit to actually sit down and find solutions,” said Stutzman. “Farmers understand better than bureaucrats that, if we’re going to pass opportunity to the next generation, we have to tackle today’s problems head on, plan for the future, and make the tough choices now. I’m proud to take that work ethic to our nation’s capital and I’m grateful to be a friend of Farm Bureau.”

“Congressman Stutzman is one of the few working farmers left in Congress, so he knows and understands our issues,” said Indiana Farm Bureau president Don Villwock. “The Friend of Farm Bureau award is presented to legislators who have a strong voting record on priority issues for agriculture and who have a good working relationship with Farm Bureau. Indiana Farm Bureau is extremely proud and fortunate to have that kind of relationship with Congressman Stutzman."

Last year, Congressman Stutzman introduced H.R. 3111, the Rural Economic Farm and Ranch Sustainability and Hunger (REFRESH) Act. The Congressional Budget Office estimated that the legislation would save taxpayers $40 billion over the next ten years. The proposal would end direct payments, while offering real reforms that serve farmers more fairly.

Stutzman is co-owner of Stutzman Farms, a true family-farming operation. Together, with his father, two brothers, and brother-in-law, the Stutzmans farm 4500 acres in northern Indiana growing soybeans, green beans, and seed corn.
